David L. Williams

P/D/C David L. Williams, SN, 96, died February 17, 2024, at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio.

Dave was born January 3, 1928, in Flushing, NY, and raised in Lancaster, PA, the only child of Oliver Lockwood and Katherine Kahle Williams. He married Virginia Lee Talley (O.W.U. ’50) on July 28, 1951, and they cherished 64 years together until Jinny’s death on April 13, 2015. They raised their family in Cleveland Heights and Moreland Hills, Ohio.

A 1950 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, Dave not only excelled in the classroom but also lettered three years in swimming and track. He was the state of Ohio champion in the 440-yard dash his senior year. He received his MBA from Western Reserve University in 1961.

Dave joined the Cleveland Twist Drill Company, at the time the world’s largest metal-cutting tool manufacturer, as an Industrial Engineer in 1950. He rose in rank from Economist, Director of Planning, and Vice President of Planning to President of the Cleveland Twist Drill Division. At the time of his retirement in 1984, he was the Vice President of Commercial Development of the merged Acme-Cleveland Corporation. With his son, Dave then started his own business, Administrative Management Services, Inc., retiring in 2021 at age 94.

Dave was a past member of the Conference of Business Economists, a past member of the Economic Advisory Board to the U.S. Department of Commerce, and a past member of the National Association of Business Economists (for which he served on the Board of Directors, as editor of Business Economics, and as Executive Secretary-Treasurer).

Passionate about boating on both Lake Erie and Chautauqua Lake, Dave was a Past District Commander of the U.S. Power Squadron. Throughout his life, he enjoyed restoring and refinishing antique wooden boats.

Always community-minded, Dave served the Orange City School Board as a member and president and was a past chairman of the Board of Trustees of Garfield United Methodist Church. At Laurel Lake Retirement Community, where he and his wife resided for 31 years, he sat on the Board of Directors representing the residents and also on the board of the Laurel Lake Foundation.

His children and grandchildren will remember his steadfast support of each of them; his love of family gatherings, especially July 4 at Chautauqua Lake; his patient care of his wife and their mother; and his affinity for puttering in basements and garages. He was a jack-of-all-trades, a gentle spirit, and a wonderful father.

Surviving are children Katherine (Billy) Clyde of Wooster; Amy Withrow, and David L. (Julie) Williams, Jr. of Chagrin Falls; grandchildren Talley (Ben Chalot) Clyde, Christopher Clyde, Meggie (Tony) Agosta, and Lindsay Williams; and great-grandchildren, Wyatt Chalot; Cecilia, Vincent, and Oliver Agosta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jinny, and his parents.

A memorial service was held in the Community Room at Laurel Lake on Saturday, February 24.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Laurel Lake Foundation, 200 Laurel Lake Drive, Hudson, OH 44236 or NEO Hospice, 10204 Granger Road, Garfield Heights, OH 44125.
