In Memory

Kenneth Knuebel

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Past Commander Kenneth Knuebel, AP, on July 25, 2021. Kenneth Paul Knuebel, 88, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. He was the loving husband of Geraldine Knuebel. He is survived by his wife and his children, Debra Vetter (Steve) of Greensboro, Susan Collevecchio (Ed) of Raleigh, David Knuebel (Terry) of Wilmington, Carol Armstrong (Ross) of Chapel Hill, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and his cousin Richard Knuebel (Ruth) of Deland, FL.

Ken was a member of Cape Fear Sail & Power Squadron beginning in January 1994. Ken served our squadron well, earning 17 Merit Marks over his 19 years with the squadron and holding many important positions including all Bridge positions. As a former Major in the Marines his leadership abilities were outstanding and he led our squadron in so many wonderful ways to growth and success.

Ken earned his Seamanship (S) and Piloting (P) education designation in 1994. He completed his Advanced Piloting (AP) in 1997.

Ken moved up through the bridge officer ranks and became Commander of the squadron in 2000. Ken continued to serve after his Commander year in many roles including Treasurer. Ken was a winner of the Corinthian Award in 1994 and the Old Salt Award in 2005. Many may remember his 28’ boat Carolina Lady. Please keep Ken and his wife Gerry in your hearts and prayers for a smooth passage across the bar on his way home. -Otis White
