Dr. Ted McCarthy, on Aug. 2, 2018, with his wife of 72 years by his side, joined his sons Tom (Sandie) and Bruce (Laurel) in heaven. Survived by wife Cay, son Ed, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Ted was born on Sept. 30, 1920, in Berkeley, graduating from Cal (’42) and McGill University of Medicine (’45). He was a beloved pediatrician in San Rafael, Saipan and at Sonoma State Hospital. An avid sailor, Ted met Cay in Inverness when she wanted a ride on his boat. They married on July 28, 1946. He founded the Redwood Power Squadron and taught many courses, belonged to SF and Inverness Yacht Clubs, had decades of perfect attendance at Rotary, served in the Army and acted as doctor/navigator for yacht races including the Transpac. He was an active member of Church of the Roses where services were held. –Cdr Debbie Powell
