The local maritime and recreational boating community in the Cape Fear Region profoundly honors Detlev “Lank” Lienau Lancaster, who passed away on June 8, 2026. Lank has been a distinguished member of Cape Fear Sail & Power Squadron for 23 years with his wife, Genie. We thank them for their incredible dedication to boating safety, generosity, and laughter. Their enduring contributions to water safety and education leave a legacy across the coastal waterways.
Losing dedicated advocates and educators like Lank is incredibly difficult, and his irreplaceable spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of boating alongside him in the Cape Fear area. We will all miss you, Lank.
